Our ‘Maker of the Month’ series takes a closer look at the talented designer-makers at Oxo Tower Wharf on London’s South Bank. Each month highlights a new designer-maker and explores each maker’s story, product, and creative process.
As our final November instalment of the series, we spoke to Claire Bonney-Lucas, one half of the hairdressing duo Bonney and France Hair at naedlae, a creative hair studio at Oxo Tower Wharf. Claire is a professional freelance hairdresser specialising in colour.
In Claire’s own words, she says:
“I’ve been in hairdressing for half my life, my career has been in London and I started in a chain salon and then moved to an incredible independent. In both places, I had the opportunity to be a part of creative hair teams, which led to wonderful opportunities within training, creative projects, and working alongside some industry greats. My career has led me to the world of independent hairdressing, and creating my own story alongside my hair partner, which is very exciting!
There are so many skilled and talented makers and crafters here at Oxo Tower Wharf, all creating their bespoke pieces. There is such a collective spirit of energy and independence amongst the creatives.
Bonney and France Hair have been operating at naedlae for just a little over a year, which is lovely! We are here alongside Ricky who is making his brand new natural haircare line, and we work together in the studio creating and making beautiful hair.
The smaller studio vibe is an appointment only experience, which means we can give a one-to-one salon experience to guests. The guest sees one person from start to finish of their service, which creates a relaxed, intimate, personal, and bespoke hair service.
Bonney and France are a hair team consisting of a hair stylist and a colour technician. We deliver our individual expertise in colouring and cutting, whilst collaborating with each other to deliver tailored and bespoke hair unique to our customers.
I enjoy designing and creating a look that’s made for the individual, making sure it suits their hair type, skin tone, lifestyle, and that the colour has longevity.
If I had to describe my hairdressing services in three words, I’d say: ‘Bespoke, curated, considered, and a cheeky fourth word – playful!’”.
