Background

The Secretary of State has decided to ‘call in’ the planning application in relation to the proposed development of the site of the former London Television Centre, 60 - 72 Upper Ground, SE1 9LT.

Application reference 21/02668/EIAFUL. Planning inspectorate reference APP/N5660/V/22/3306162.

What's happening?

An Inspector has been appointed by the Secretary of State, under Section 77(5) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, to consider the planning application and make a recommendation to the Secretary of State on how the application should be determined. The appointed Inspector is C Masters MA (Hons) FRTPI.

The Public Inquiry in respect of the proposed development at 72 Upper Ground, the former ITV building starts on Tuesday 6 December 2022.

After months of campaigning and hard work please come along in person on the first morning (Tuesday 6 December) to show strength in numbers concerned at the massive, proposed development.

  • the problems of the South Bank
  • the need for more housing 
  • the local creative or cultural opportunities you enjoy
  • the joys of the National Theatre or the Royal Festival Hall
  • the joys of Waterloo Sunset
  • the massive carbon waste of demolishing a building barely 50 years old
  • crossing Waterloo and Blackfriars Bridges and seeing the South Bank
  • the glimpses of St Paul's, or the particular qualities of Roupell Street or Stamford Street, or Cornwall Road.

Keep the dates

The Public Inquiry will take place from Tuesday 6 - Friday 16 December, and on Tuesday 3 and Friday 6 January 2023 on which the public can also attend. (The Public Inquiry is expected to run for 12 days however, the duration is not fixed and will depend on how the evidence emerges).

On the opening morning, from 10am on Tuesday 6 December, opening statements will be made by all parties.

#SOS: Save Our South Bank Action Group need as many people as possible to attend in person to show the many concerns raised by this proposed development. Individuals do not have to say or do anything but by observing the proceedings they will be demonstrating opposition to the plans.
